Stressful Diaper Changes

I need help. Changing Charlotte's diaper has become something that I dread. I am getting so stressed out trying to change her diapers, and I am afraid she can sense that, which is making it worse. As soon as I put her down to try to change her diaper, battle ensues. She flips over as soon as you lay her down, you flip her back over, and she squirms and fights to get back onto her stomach. And she's strong and VERY strong willed. If she has it in her mind that she's going to flip over, she is going to flip over. I'm afraid to change her on the changing table because she has hit her head while flipping over 2 or 3 times now.

I have tried everything. Giving her new things to play with, singing songs, making funny faces, nothing works for more than 20 seconds. 20 seconds is not enough time to get the old diaper off, her cleaned up, put cream on, and then put a new diaper on.

Any suggestions?

I would either try changing her diaper while she's on her tummy if that's how she wants to be (not as easy, but you will be amazed at the different locations & positions you can actually change a diaper in...). Or, do it on the floor. Not as easy for you, but at least you don't have to worry about her bonking her head or falling off the table. Does she do the same thing at daycare?

@Rebecca, I have been able to change her diaper when she's on her tummy - but when it's a huge poop filled one, that sometimes can get messy. They don't mention that she does this at daycare...I'll ask if they have any tricks up their sleeves.

I always lifted Lilly's legs up really high so that she couldn't get any leverage. Maybe that's why she is so limber today. Ha, ha.

Kind of more of a joke than anything, obviously. I mean, I plan on being a really green mom, with composting and G-diapers and all that, but when I saw that I realized it's just a little too crunchy for me...can you imagine trying to make a 2 month old sit on the toilet? would that be just some sort of bottomless bumbo seat? Aye yai yai.

While we had her last weekend, I gave her her bottle to hold while I changed her.She was probably surprised to realize she was feeding herself, but it worked. Once changed, I'd pick her up and cuddle her while she finished her bottle. Love, Nina
